Short Term Action

• Increase public awareness of health and safety issues through multiple communication media – newspapers, cable TV, radio, internet, email, flyers
• Importance of utilizing local hospital and medical providers
• Educational programs on health and safety issues
• Support Magnolia Hospital fundraising efforts
• Support Helping Everyone Achieve Long Term Health (HEALTH) collaborative group
• HEALTH group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at noon at the DHS office
• Support existing addiction and child abuse intervention efforts such as Extra Touch Mentoring Program, Drug Court, DCFS, CASA
• Donate resources to support behavioral interventions in these programs with incentives and rewards for client progress
• Recruit mentors, CASA, and other volunteers to improve the reach of existing programs

Medium Term Action

• Begin research and planning to develop a Domestic Violence Crisis Center
• Develop a team to research model programs and develop funding streams for a local center to respond to rape and domestic violence
• Support recruitment efforts to bring physicians and specialized medical services to the community

Long Term Action

• Begin research and planning to develop a Teens Council
• Support county and city efforts to improve housing, roads, and neighborhoods
• ‘Broken Window’ phenomenon and physical environment improvements that decrease crime rates
• Form a team to research model programs and funding streams for medical services for uninsured adults
